Lost & Found
Mixed Media on Canvas
20"x20"

So anyone who knows me knows what a sucker I am for movies that show the strength of the human spirit.  I mean come one, who doesn't love to watch a film that not only inspires you but just makes you feel damn good.

This one looks like one to put on the list and having both Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in it doesn't hurt either...........

Movie Thursday

On The Art Front:  Busy working away for Images as well the Thunder Beach First Annual Art Exhibition which opens Sunday July 18th 1-5.  For more info check out Carol Currie's blog.
It looks to be a wonderful show although I unfortunately won't be in attendance.  Carol has so graciously offered to take some of my work up there as I'll be in San Francisco.  I am also meeting with The Matilda Swanson Gallery in June so if things go as planned I'll have representation in Blue Mountain.  Next week I'm headed up to The Silverbridge Gallery with new work and to meet the new owners.  So lots going on!

On The Movie Front:  Saw a preview of this new documentary called Joan River: A Piece of Work and now I feel like seeing it.  Not that I am or ever have been a Joan Rivers fan but I just love documentaries and hey, you gotta admire someone whose 76 years old and still doin it ..........

Cheers,

Work in Progress......

Lately I've been living in what can only be described as the valley of the carbs..... can't seem to get enough but today it stops.  Sometimes when I feel like I've got a lot going on that's the first thing that calls my name.  Today back to yoga and good healthy eating.

Many times friends will send me trailers of movies they think may interest me since I am an absolute movie freak.  I probably missed my calling and should have been a film critic.  Not that I have any expertise in that field but come on, how hard can it be?  Check out  LBS it looks great.......

Just A Bunch of Stuff None of Which You'll Probably Find Interesting

I've been a bad, bad blogger and have not kept up with my so called blogging code which is to post at least every other day. But I'm not making any apologies today I'll just blame it on the busyness of the season.
I met with Ellen who owns the Ridge West Gallery yesterday and things went very well. She is going to schedule a show with me in 2009 and would like to represent my work at the gallery. It's a smaller gallery but I was impressed with the artists whose work she currently represents and her desire to really work with and for her artists. She has a good spirit!
Being as obsessed as I am about movies I'd be remiss not mention a few I'm looking forward to seeing...........
Out on dvd The Visitor with Richard Jenkins. I was a big "Six Feet Under" fanatic and if you were too you'll remember him as Nate and David's father. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing that will ever hold a candle to that show........Alan Ball is a genius.
I'm not a huge fan of Brad Pitt's but have heard great things about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which opens on Christmas Day. A story that tells of a man living his life backwards from old to young. Interesting premise.
I also can't wait to see Slumdog Millionaire.
Last one.........for major sap factor but an all around great movie you have to watch
Love Actually. Other than It's A Wonderful Life this is my favourite holiday film. Listen to Hugh Grant's narrative at the beginning as it is priceless. Snuggle up with someone, make some popcorn and sip some egg nog (with or without rum). You'll love it
I was going to post a few photos of the oils and I've been working on the past week but the pictures sucked.... everything from the lighting to the glare from the piece. I'll try on a better day to take some new ones. I'm taking a very short break from paint and thread (maybe a week) and have delved head first into working in oils. I had a few wood panels laying around and thought what the hell, hoping it would kick start my creativity which believe me needs some kick starting.
Have a great weekend..............

For The Love of Movies

October Afternoon

Acrylic & Thread on Canvas

Last night my oldest daughter and I watched one of my all time favourite movies, "The Color Purple". I have seen it too many times to count and read the book at least three times. That movie, without fail, sends chills running up and down my spine and every little hair on my body sticks up. I think I've mentioned before how much I love movies but when I really look at which ones seem to be my favourites it is usually a film that deals with someone's personal struggle and then their triumph. Cinderella Man with Russell Crow was like that as was Jerry Maguire....ok, I did love Tom Cruise then but that was before the jumping on Oprah's couch and the weird video. It is still one of my all time favourites. All these movies have one common dominator ..... the strength of the human spirit. So call me a sap but when I leave a film feeling better and more inspired than when I went in...........to me that's great art!
