Fun At Blue & New Gallery Representation
The last few years we've been doing a mini getaway with the girls to Blue Mountain. I, who am not a downhill skier, love blue Mountain as not only do they have a great Starbucks for my favourite chai latte but there are also a variety of shops and galleries in the area for those of us who are terrified of careening down a snow packed hill at 60 km/hr.
I spent quite some time here
And even though I didn't buy anything I loved walking around the quaint village and checking out all the shops.
The girls had a blast skiing....
On Saturday I took off for a visit with The Matilda Swanson Gallery. I had meant to meet with them months ago but life got in the way and this seemed the opportune time being in Blue Mountain and all. So I took in a few of my mixed media on cotton pieces and headed up the road to meet with Sue. She loved the work but was concerned about the size. The gallery mostly sells large works as that's what works best for them and that's what they move. So for the time being they are going to keep the work I gave them but would like me to head back in April with larger works on canvas. Nice gallery, nice people.
So this is a bare bones start of new piece....not a whole lot to show at the moment but it will eventually take shape when I figure out what I'm doing with it. I always start with a basic sketch and work from there but it's almost guaranteed to never end up resembling the original sketch which somehow appeals to me in a big way .... like a happy surprise.

Work for Images and the Joy of A Maple Latte
6"x6"
Acrylic on Canvas, Copper Thread
Yesterday's yoga class has me wishing I was taking another one today. After class I felt so refreshed and ready to get back home and start painting which I did........but not until I stopped at the Blue Bottle for a Maple Latte which was probably one of the most amazing things I have ever tasted. Thankfully I don't live in Barrie or I know I'd be shelling out $4.00 a day drinking one. I asked the woman who prepared it for me how it was made and she kindly told me it was two shots of expresso, steamed milk and a shot of maple syrup. Can't get much more Canadian than that.
The above piece is the first I've finished for the upcoming Images Studio Tour. I think I'll do at least ten or so as they are a great price point at $100.00, come framed and most people who've seen them have picked one up. I've taken copper thread and inlaid or collaged it into the ground cover. The jpeg came out much darker than the actual piece is and doesn't quite pick up the shimmer like seeing it in real life would. Work is good and I'm happy with the way it's progressing. I'm almost finished my first 16"x20" which scared the hell out of me at first but I'm slowly getting used to working bigger. The small works are still fun but I do feel the need to branch out and experience what it is to work on a larger format.
Wherever you are in the world today ........... have a good one!

My New Love

In August my friend Judy and I were back to school shopping with our kids at the dreaded mall. When we got tired of following them around she took me into Timothy's and bought me my first chai latte.........I've been hooked ever since. So imagine my surprise when I came across Tazo's Chai Latte at my local grocery store. I've been buying it on a regular basis although it is a bit pricey at $6.89 a pop but it does last me for an entire week. Oh, look at me justifying my newest addiction.
John even bought me a hand held frother for my birthday a few weeks ago just so I could make it appear more authentic.
I do have a few rules about my new guility pleasure though and they are as follows.........
I never have one in the morning. It is far too hectic here and I would be drinking it without actually enjoying it so what would be the point.
I only have one a day which continues to make it a special treat.
I almost always have it at 3:00 p.m. while I'm watching General Hospital which is probably something else you didn't know about me. I've been tuning in since I was about ten years old as it was one of my mom's favs. And although it is always quite predictable I still enjoy 3:00pm when I take a break, check out what's happening in Port Charles and sip a chai latte with froth.
On a totally different subject..........we've gotten our fair share of snow. Snapped this photo yesterday.
